Walking Into Eternity

I’m reading Ulysses right now. The one in Dublin, not Greece. It’s pretty good. Here is a poem inspired by a line in chapter 3: “Am I walking into eternity along Sandymount strand?” Enjoy.

Walking into eternity

The first time you ever felt sad.

Twelve flights of stairs

Is still better than nothing at all.

At the top you thought

You could teach yourself to smile.

But it was too loud, and

Too bright to be happy.

Walking into eternity:

You realized what it was

To really miss someone.

To be missed.
