poems from the summer (so far)

You offered to give me your jacket

And it made me want to scream.

Running down the same road

Day after day

And I finally stop to cry.

A candle illuminates my childhood

While I wait for you to tell me

What I already know.

My dad is in the other room, crying

Again, and I am fixated on the window

Searching for a bike ride in spring,

Waiting for the shoes to finally fit.

The light at the bottom of the stairs

Doesn’t feel like home anymore.
